West Coast Bash 2012 - Six Flags Magic Mountain, Day One
February 26, 2012

Still haven't whored this new kiddie coaster, and seeing as how much effort went into finally getting it up and running, I feel sort of bad about that.

Tatsu, looking tasty, as always. Didn't get on this one this day, either.

But I popped for a Six Flags Extreme Pass this year, so I'll have my way with her soon enough.

There are no words to express the depths of my hatred for these ads.

One thing we can always count on at The Bash is a lengthy presentation in the late afternoon at the Magic Moments Theater. I was really psyched for this because it featured a segment about Lex Luthor: Drop of Doom, the record-demolishing freefall ride going up on the Superman tower.
Tim Burkhart and Neal Thurman, Director of Operations, did the honors again, and it was quite interesting. We learned that the queue would be set back from the tower, to shield guests from the ear-splitting noise of the Superman trains screaming overhead. Nice.

These are the construction walls around the area they're putting the queue. It will be themed to look like the headquarters of Luthor's corporate offices.

There will be rows of seats on either side of the tower, but they'll both run on the same rig that will wrap around the backside of the structure. So that will mean sixteen passengers maximum on each cycle.
Tim also explained some of the mechanical challenges of adding this attraction; turns out it will be not quite as easy as what was done for Australia's Tower of Terror/Giant Drop combo. Plus, they did some motion testing to determine just how much the tower sways when Superman is operating. Under the right circumstances, the top of the vertical moves up to two feet forwards and backwards. Think of that happening while we're poised to drop from 400 feet...
Also, another record-breaking ride is in the works. (For the Log Jammer site? Not sure yet. Intriguing.)
Also: the park is looking at an Iron Horse revamp of Colossus. If they can find a way to justify the expense, from a promotional angle, they may go forward.

I am keeping my fingers crossed. If I ran this park, here's what I would do.
