Six Flags Great America 2011 Trip Report
Sept. 20, 2011

Buccaneer Battle is the latest attraction here and while we didn't ride, it's one of those things that is entertaining just to watch.

I'm not sure I really "get" this completely, but it looks great, and kids were having a ball, firing the guns and dodging the water jets and fountains and such.

One thing that might benefit this kind of ride greatly would be to make it dark, put the whole thing in a building, so you couldn't see what was coming. The boats move very slowly, and the entire course is on display. No surprises.

But the idea is to get wet, and that's more fun to do in the sun, so maybe not. Giant squid FTW!

The squid is awesome. Love the squid.

Now, we'd all heard more than enough warnings, but this is B&M's very first coaster, and even back in June, it was no secret that Iron Wolf was outta here. So we rode it. Also because we're sick credit whores. And you know what happens to whores? Sometimes they take a beating.

Holy mother in heaven, this was bad. "Angry Pimp" bad. Shockingly, I overheard a tweener in the exit saying that he liked this ride a little better than Batman. So maybe if you're not too tall, Iron Wolf took some pity on you. But for any adult of average height or greater, forget it.

How this will fare at Six Flags America as Apocalypse: The Last Stand, I do not know. New, late model trains will probably be of some benefit. I wish them nothing but luck.

(Apocalypse: The Last Stand is certainly an enticing name for a coaster, and when they paint this all black, with the yellow rails, and add some ominous music, and maybe some flamethrowers and things, this might turn out to be a lark. Again, good luck, Six Flags "Not Great" America.)
