Luna Park, Coney Island Trip Report July 2010
Nov. 7th, 2010

And then there's the Circus Coaster for small folks and whores of the credit variety.

More Wonder Wheel adoration.

Their Wave Swinger is called Lynn's Trapeze and it features "the history of Coney Island." (This is a very nice tribute to Lynn Kelly. I had no idea who she was, but thanks to the interwebz, I do now.)
In my vision of a perfect world, Coney would either be restored to its full early 20th century majesty, with the real Luna Park, Dreamland and Steeplechase recreated down to the last light bulb, or just left alone. The former is a practical impossibility and the latter is now a lost dream.
Zamperla's a fine company, and they've done a perfectly respectable job with the new Luna. Looks like they're also going to take over management of the Cyclone, and pretty much handle all future amusement development on the rest of the available lots.
I understand that they want to use Coney as a showcase for their product, and that's not a problem (just keep those godforsaken "flying" coasters as far away as possible). But I'd implore Zamperla to follow the example set by Mack Rides and their Europa Park. Most of the hardware at Europa Park comes from Mack. But not all. They went to Bolliger & Mabillard for the Silver Star coaster.
Would it be impertinent to suggest that Zamperla hires Great Coasters to bring in another woodie? And call it the Thunderbolt? Because that would make me, and I'm sure a few others, very, very, very happy. I'll get down on my knees and beg if necessary.
And gimme a scary dark ride, dadgumit!

Ah, Coney...

Even if the Coney we love will live only in our memories, it will live still.
