Kennywood 2011 Trip Report
August 14, 2011

The sure thing to get that hairball out of our throats was a ride on Jack Rabbit, the second of Kennywood's amazing woodie trio. While not as diabolical as Thunderbolt, this is a flat-out "Do Not Miss" ride.

And another ride with a plaque out front. (There are plaques like this almost everywhere.)

The Jack Rabbit is another ravine coaster with its chain lift smack in the middle of the course. And it is a great ride in every row...

...but you simply have to get at least one ride in over the rear wheels, for Jackie's double-dip will give you a butt-ventilation you will never forget. Magnificent.

And just a hop, skip and jump away from the Rabbit, is The Racer, the last of Special K's lumber treats. A true "Moebius Strip" coaster, with one long track rather than two parallel, separate courses, The Racer races every single time, as it has to. And at several points during the ride, you can reach out and hold hands with riders in the other train. So full of awesome and win, it is practically sickening. And how beautiful is that station? Exceptionally, that's how.

Another well-deserved honor.

Sadly, we had a long drive in front of us, so we had to bid farewell to Kennywood long before we wanted to. But we did drop some quarters at the most righteous shooting gallery any of us had ever encountered, a shooting gallery that shoots back at you. It's right next to Racer; make time for it and perpare to get wet.

With heavy hearts, we did say "goodnight," but with a strong conviction to return, sooner than later.

Keep the faith, Kennywood; you are a national treasure.
