New York City Photo Trip Report – Part 2 - Coney Island
August 2, 2012

Before we finished up the day at Ruby's, I mulled over giving Luna's Air Race a shot. I approach every new flat ride with a lot of angst, but the rep on this thing is incredibly strong, so I swallowed hard and got in line.

The logic was: it's probably like riding a very, very loopy roller coaster. And I like loopy roller coasters. They don't make me sick. Just relax.

But when the restraints locked down, I did have a split-second moment of regret; "Here I go, ruining an otherwise perfect day." Too late.

'Round and 'round, picking up speed, so far, so good... then the arms start to swing out... and up and over the top we go.

WAAAHOOOOOOOO!

Okay, so, I'm a recent convert and you know what they say about recent converts, but DAMN THIS IS THE BEST FLAT RIDE EVAR IN TEH WHOLE WORLD I LOVE IT SO MUCHEZ!!1!!1!!!

Deep breath, let me start over. Three cheers, Zamperla! This graceful tornado of centripetal forces totally hits that sweet spot, utterly exhilarating but never nauseating. The acrobatic swoopiness is blissful. It messes with your head, make no mistake; I staggered like a lame drunk to the exit. But again, my digestive tract had zero complaints.

Air Race is now right behind The Cyclone as my favorite mechanical diversion at Coney Island. In its weight class, there is nothing else like it. Make more, please.

Halloween at Coney Island sounds like more awesome than I could handle in one serving. Do need to try that one year.

Such a tremendous day...

These "Coney Island" murals are site-specific art created by artist Greg LaMarche for Wonder Wheel Park in 2004 – SUPERCOOL!

Keep it real, C.I. Till we meet again!

Next up: Wild Bill's Dark Ride Paradise!
