The Season Pass

October 22 , 2012

Had an absolutely epic time at Knott's Scary Farm's 40th Haunt and an even more epic time recording some Season Pass love for it. Here's a write-up on the whole shebang.

The announcement of Six Flags St. Louis' "new" attraction for 2013 got me thinking... and the result is a new entry in the Rides I Want... section: the steampunk-flavored PONY Express.

Before I get into the meat of the last Season Pass trip (the first podcast from said trip, at Dollywood, is already up!), please enjoy this brief look at a dark ride you won't soon forget, the Jurassic Jungle Boat Ride.

The last of the New York City photo trip reports is now live and it's a look at The High Line, the coolest city "park" I've ever seen.

Coming next are all the trip reports and related stuff from the Dollywood/Carowinds/Six Flags Over Georgia week. That will all begin with a Ride Review of the Pigeon Forge Jurassic Jungle Boat Ride.

The third part of my New York City photo trip report is all about Wild Bill's Nostalgia Store and the Dark Ride Paradise, which will likely be an annual destination of mine until the day I die. No matter where I may be living.

Tomorrow morning, very damned early, I'm on my way experience another super-freaking mega-awesome Season Pass / Theme Park Review fun tornado, at Dollywood, Carowinds and Six Flags Over Georgia. I'll do my best to send out the occasional tweet during the trip.

Part 2 of the 2012 New York City photo trip report is up, and it's all about Coney Island.

I'm aiming to have Part 3 ready before I head off next Tuesday for another sweet Season Pass / Theme Park Review multi-day super-fun-fest that will include Dollywood, Carowinds and Deep South Bash (!!!) at Six Flags Over Georgia.

I'm putting together a four-part photo trip report from a recent week in New York City (it was amazing), and here's Part 1, with a few random photos, a look at Victorian Gardens Amusement Park and some images of the 9/11 Memorial. Part 2 will cover Coney Island.

Keeping up with The Season Pass podcasts? Good, because they're better than ever. Also, we were PodCrashed! Check it out, episode 38.

More soon!

I recently got a chance to check out Bodie, one of the greatest ghost towns in the Western U.S., and take some photos; here's a gallery of shots with some bonus material thrown in.

I've posted a ride review of SeaWorld San Diego's Manta. (And I've pretty much decided I'd like to be reincarnated as a ray, if I ever have to come back as a gilled creature.)

Helluva Memorial Day weekend for me: Friday night, we recorded another insanely awesome Season Pass podcast with Bob Gurr; Saturday, Doug and I headed to San Diego to ride Manta (thanks again, Paul and James, for being kick-ass hosts!) and the Mission Beach Giant Dipper; Sunday, we were up at Knott's to record with Chris Gore for an upcoming PodCrash; and on the way home that night, I swung by Universal Studios to try out Transformers: The Ride. I am not worthy of weekends like this.

Ride reviews are still to be prepared. For now, a couple of vintage photos, because during my recent move, I rediscovered a veritable treasure trove of decades-old Kodachrome slides. I'll need to scan them in over the next few weeks, but in the meantime:

Remember when this was the greatest wooden roller coaster in existence? Yeah, that was a long, long time ago. I'm almost positive this was taken during the American Coaster Enthusiasts' CoasterCon IV, back in 1981, with PTC trains and everything...

From that same trip, a POV shot of Shockwave's first drop. (They let us take cameras on during our ERT sessions... crazy.)

The Season Pass hits its epic 200th episode and in honor of that milestone, they present a very special "Making of Star Tours" extravaganza. Very proud to have been a part of this one. Listen NOW.

If you follow me on Twitter, you might have caught a tweet from a couple of weeks back mentioning that I was moving to new digs. I'm further north, putting some more miles between me and all the theme parks in Southern California, but that's about the only downside to the relocation, and it's a small one.

Tonight, the display pictured below welcomed me at my new local Trader Joe's.

I'm going to like it here.

Howdy, folks! Got a kickoff update for the new year, a shortish trip report of my first visit to Disneyland during the Christmas holiday season.

Also, I'm going to be gradually folding in some minor layout adjustments for the site over the next few months; hope they're an improvement.

Also, the next update, which should happen in a week or so, will be a bit different than the regular content here. Just a teaser to stir up some curiosity.

Going to West Coast Bash?! See you there!
